The eastern Pacific region near the coasts of Mexico and Central America continues to boil with a tropical wave and rain and thunderstorm activity over a large area. There is also rain and storm activity in the Caribbean side off Central America and Panama. This region has seen this pattern of tropical waves, rain and thunderstorms on and off over the past several weeks
Typhoon Conson has weakened over the past six hours, but it remains a category 1 tropical cyclone as it appears to aim for major cities of Quezon and Manila, the capital, in the Philippines. The system should interact with Mount Pinatubo volcano to the northwest of Manila, so there is the risk of heavy rain and flash floods in the area over the next day or so.
