In January 22, 2009 Ricardo Alvarez was the featured guest speaker at the monthly meeting and lunch of the South Florida Chapter of the Florida Engineering Society. Ricardo presented a paper titled Adapting the Built Environment to the Impact of Climate Change, in which he shared important specific knowledge and research findings of interest to engineers and other building-design professionals, while also raising the issue of the general lack of active involvement by engineers in the filed of climate change adaptation. The January 2009 meeting of the Florida Engineering Society was held at the Hurricane Warning – Disaster Survival House in Deerfield Beach, Florida, with 50+ members of the society attending.
